Two Cougars Earn All-WSC

SAN LUIS OBISPO (February 24, 2017)— The Western State Conference has announced its 2017 All-WSC teams and two Cuesta players were accorded honors.  Freshmen Madison Collins (Eltham, Australia) and Tawny Lino (Santa Maria: Pioneer Valley HS) were named all-WSC first team and honorable mention, respectively.  Women’s Basketball ended a tough season as injuries and illness issues tore at the Cougars’ line-up all season.  They finished with a respectable 12-16 overall record, but landed in 6th place in the Western State Conference with a 1-9 mark against the loop.

Freshman Power Forward Madison Collins (Eltham, Australia) was the Cougars’ lone representative on the 2017 All-WSC First Team.  She led the Cougars with 14.8 points and 9.0 rebounds per game and recorded ten double-doubles on the season.  Collins was also second on the team with 2.5 assists per game and third with 73 steals.  She played all five positions for the Cougars and scored a team season-high 27 points to lead them to the Las Positas Tournament title in November.  Collins also pulled down a team season-high 16 rebounds twice on the season.  Her team-leading 14.8 points per game and 415 points scored on the season rank 8th and 9th, respectively, all time at Cuesta, while her 46.1 shooting percentage is also 9th all time for a season.

Freshman Point Guard Tawny Lino (Santa Maria: Pioneer Valley HS) was accorded 2017 All Western State Conference Honorable Mention.  She was second on the team with 13.2 points per game and scored in double-digits in each of her last dozen games, before knee injury forced her to the sidelines with five games left in the season.  Lino led the Cougars with 3.8 assists and 3.3 steals per game, while also nabbing rebounds at a 2.6 per game clip.   She ranks 9th all time at Cuesta for assists per game and 10th for steals in a season.
